Which thermostats can I connect to my Intergas central heating boiler?

ON/OFF room thermostat
You should be able to connect any ON/OFF room thermostat to an Intergas Combi Compact HR(E) boiler. The boiler operates until the maximum boiler temperature setting has been reached. This maximum temperature is set at the factory to 80 °C, but can be adjusted via its display to any temperature between 30 °C and 90 °C.

OpenTherm room thermostat
You should be able to connect any OpenTherm room thermostat to an Intergas Combi Compact HR(E) boiler.
The boiler operates until the maximum boiler temperature setting has been reached. This maximum temperature is set by the OpenTherm room thermostat, but won’t be allowed to exceed the boiler’s maximum temperature.

Can I adjust the Intergas Combi Compact HR(E) boiler to take account of weather conditions?

ON/OFF room thermostat and outdoor sensor
In theory, you can use any ON/OFF room thermostat in combination with an Intergas outdoor sensor (article no. 203207). The boiler operates until the maximum boiler temperature setting has been reached. This maximum temperature setting is automatically controlled by the outdoor sensor according to the boiler’s set heating curve. The heating curve can be adjusted by the installer in the boiler’s parameter settings.

OpenTherm room thermostat and outdoor sensor
Outdoor sensors can be directly connected to certain OpenTherm  thermostats. This combination works well, but the installer will have to run four wires to the room thermostat. It’s also possible to connect an Intergas outdoor sensor (article no. 203207) directly to the boiler, which in turn forwards the outdoor temperature to the room thermostat. The room thermostat has its own heating curve that determines the boiler’s supply temperature. Connecting an OpenTherm room thermostat to the boiler then deactivates the boiler’s heating curve.
Important: Simple OpenTherm room thermostats don’t have their own heating curves and therefore don’t recognise an outdoor sensor’s input. In which case, an outdoor sensor doesn’t serve any purpose.

The boiler operates until the maximum boiler temperature setting has been reached. This maximum temperature setting is automatically controlled by the outdoor sensor in accordance with the room thermostat’s set heating curve. Its heating curve can be adjusted by the installer in the room thermostat’s parameter settings. This maximum temperature is set at the OpenTherm room thermostat, but won’t be allowed to exceed the boiler’s maximum temperature.

Can I connect a solar water heater to an Intergas boiler?

Our Combi Compact HR and HRE boilers are both solar label certified and suitable for solar boiler reheating purposes. A connector and thermostatic mixing valve are available on order.

Our Prestige CW6 is also solar certified. A thermostatic mixing valve is also available on order. No connector is required to use a Prestige CW6 as a reheater in combination with a solar water heater.

Is it possible to use an Intergas Combi Compact HR(E) with underfloor heating?

Yes, Intergas HE boilers can be used with any underfloor heating system. In fact, most modern underfloor heating systems can be used with most HE boilers without any problem. However, older systems used black polyethylene tubing which is oxygen-permeable (oxygen diffusion) and over time oxygen corrodes the aluminium and stainless steel heat exchangers used in some boilers. This means that underfloor heating and central heating systems needed to be carefully segregated. Our Combi Compact HR(E) and Prestige boilers use our unique, double-HE heat exchangers with copper water coils, eliminating the problem of corrosion. But please note, for the hot water supply to continue working properly, it’s important that no unwanted circulation exists caused by a second pump in the system. Connect underfloor heating indirectly so that it’s hydraulically neutral, or insert an electric valve or non-return valve to prevent any flow through the appliance while it’s not being used for heating purposes.

Can a certified installer convert an Intergas appliance to run on propane?

Using our conversion set, it is indeed possible to convert Intergas products for use with propane. These sets are available from wholesalers.

Is it possible to install an Intergas appliance without connecting or using its hot water system?

It’s not necessary to connect both systems in our products, i.e. the hot water or central heating system. Our Combi Compact HR(E) boilers can be programmed to run as solo boilers, either hot water only or as a heat-only system.

Is it possible to connect an Intergas Combi Compact HR(E) to a central heating system filled with anti-freeze?

Yes, no problem whatsoever, as long as the anti-freeze is glycol-based.
